Hello Darlings!
My family adores hockey. It’s an obsession that is four
generations strong on my father’s side, and encompasses every level of the game,
from mini-mites to the Olympic team and everything in between. With the
2012-2013 National Hockey League lockout, however, our hockey consumption has
been focused on the minor leagues.
My younger (but very much so larger) brother
has been playing in the Western States Hockey League (WSHL) for the
Texas Brahmas. In my mind, my brother is still the three-year-old teetering
around on his first pair of skates, not the hulking mass that can easily toss
me over his shoulder, so it makes me a bit giddy that we can stream his games
at home! And upholding tradition, one of my younger cousins is playing for the
same high school team that my father and his four brothers played for way back
when! Strangely enough though, no men’s league for the old folks this year,
slackers.

That being said, the end of the 2012-2013 NHL lockout is a point of celebration! Out comes the Boston Bruins gear and on go skates
and a bit of competition. I am very fortunate to have a gorgeous little pond in
our backyard that my father has been diligently working on to freeze into a skate-able
hockey rink. So yesterday some of the family came to visit for a bit of a pick
up game (yay resolution number four)!

Kiwi, Our Golden Retriever Plays with Looch |
Everyone enjoyed the ice, including the dogs, especially Tinkerbelle, who is a bit of a puck-hog, and Looch, an adorable little Chocolate Lab puppy named after, you guessed it, Milan Lucic, an incredible player on the Boston Bruins.

I even joined in on the fun, playing a game of defense with
Tinkerbelle. I apparently didn’t quite inherit the hockey gene though, I can
skate, but you know that you aren’t very good when your dog is a better
defenseman than you are. Showoff.
Tinkerbelle and I, I'm wearing Bauer 300s old, old, old skates I bought in Canada! |
All in all it was a fun day, and I can’t wait for the NHL’s
(shortened) season to begin! Who are you most excited to watch? Leave your
answers in the comments below!
