Hello Darlings!
One of the questions I get asked over and over is “how on
earth do you keep Tinkerbelle clean!?” Samoyeds like Tink are super white,
incredibly fluffy, and fabulously naughty (read: mud puddles). However, as much
as those three qualities sound like they make for an extremely dirty dog,
Samoyeds are a hypoallergenic dog breed- they have no dander as they have hair
that keeps clean much like a human’s would. But when I can’t just brush out the
dirt, there are a few tools I use to keep little miss Tink sparkling!
A good shampoo is key. I use a combination of two Earthbath
ones, Mediterranean Magic, which is for combating any strong smells (Tink is
rather gross sometimes and likes to roll in dead things) and Light Color Coat
Brightener which brightens up her fur and smells like lavender! Earthbath is an
amazing company that makes all-natural shampoos (and a number of other
products) that are great for your pet, environmentally friendly, and not tested
on animals!
After her bath, I blow dry Tink to prevent any hot spots,
which, with how dense Samoyed’s coats are, are easy for them to get. As she is
drying I swear by the Furminator to get all the extra loose fur out.
If she needs it, I use a nail clipper and a file. I prefer
the kind where you stick the nail into the center hole then cut, as I feel that
this type of clipper is easier to use than most and prevents injury! Use a file
to smooth down any rough edges so she doesn’t scratch herself (or the floor!)
and you’re good to go.
If I don’t have time (or the patience) to give Tink a full
bath, I use TrueBlue Fresh-In-A-Flash Cleansing spray, a biodegradable
coat-freshener that smells wonderful and really brightens up a dirty coat! All
you do is squirt it on you pup’s coat and brush! Super easy and super
effective!
Lastly, don’t forget to brush! Use a natural pup-specific
toothpaste (this one is peanut butter flavored) and a long-handled dog toothbrush
and keep those teeth pearly white!
