Newman’s Own Organics spoiled me. As well as sending a box of treats to little miss Tinkerbelle (treat my dog nicely and you’re automatically on my good side) they sent along a giant box of treats for me! I am a snacker with a giant sweet tooth, however I try to keep my sweets as organic and additive free as possible. Enter Newman’s Own with organic everything under the sun- yes, please! For the past few weeks I have been making my way through my organic sweets stash, picking out my favorites, and sharing the goodies with everyone who has come to visit.
The honest truth- there wasn’t a single item in the entire box that I didn’t like! I did, of course, have my favorites (organic sour straws?!) and an item or two that were just ‘ok’ but I would definitely recommend anything from the organic snack line! I’ve broken the snacks down into a few categories, chocolate, candy, pretzels, cookies, Newman O’s, and fruit so I didn’t miss anything!
When you open your packages and the first thing you see is a pile of chocolate you know it is going to be a good day. Newman’s Own Organic chocolates were all delicious, each in their own way. From the bars of dark chocolate laced with flavors like orange and espresso, to the chocolate cups filled with traditional peanut butter or delicious raspberry and peppermint, there is something for everybody (or in this case just me, devouring sugar).
I am a sucker for candy (yes, that was my attempt at being ‘punny’) and Newman’s Own does it right. The mints are all delicious- and the hot is most definitely not lying-and work well. I love that they are all made with organic sweeteners, and come in adorable tins. I know those will definitely be re-used! As for the licorice, I’m in love. Which, quite frankly, is incredibly odd knowing that I really dislike the taste of licorice. The sour flavors (particularly the strawberry) are amazing, and while I wasn’t a fan of the black licorice, when you have a pomegranate-flavored licorice you really can’t beat it!
Pretzels are one of my favorite snack foods. Crunchy, salty, and easy to eat- they are perfect for munching on the go or satisfying that salt craving. Newman’s are perfectly crunchy, particularly the Thins, and delicious! The High Protein pretzels are also yummy, but the texture seems just a bit off.
I don’t think I’ve seen so many cookies in one place since being a Girl Scout. One of my favorite things out of the bunch were the Orange Chocolate Chip Cookies. They legitimately taste like the chocolate oranges you get at Christmas time and have to smack on the counter to open- SO good!
I also loved the Ginger Snaps- they didn’t skimp on the ginger- and the Fig Newmans which are chock full of fruit!
Newman O’s are delicious! I’m not a huge chocolate fan, but the three varieties with chocolate cookies were great with their fillings of mint, peanut butter, and ‘original’ crème. The vanilla version was just delicious- sweet without being over sweet and filled with the same rich crème as their chocolate counterparts!
And last but not least, Newman’s Own Organic dried fruits were perfect! I really dislike when dried fruit is too sweet and full of preservatives to maintain color. The bags of apricots and mixed berries aren’t the prettiest snack, but they sure are tasty! I popped a handful of fruit into my morning granola and was quite pleased. Dried fruit on the go is also an awesome pick-me-up for an energy boost mid-day!
Overall, Newman’s Own organic snack line was awesome. I really appreciate the fact that their flours and sugars are all organic, and you can read each and every ingredient.
